Safeguarding statement
Our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of every child who uses BrainBuzz · Last updated: 28 August 2026
1. Our Commitment
BrainBuzz is built for children. The safety, privacy, and wellbeing of every child who uses our platform is our highest priority — above commercial considerations, above convenience, and above everything else.
We are committed to:
Privacy by Design
No personal data is ever collected from children
No Profiling
Children are never tracked, profiled, or targeted
No Advertising
BrainBuzz is completely free from advertising of any kind
No Social Features
No messaging, chat, commenting, or user interaction
Age-Appropriate Content
All content is reviewed and appropriate for ages 5–13
No Direct Contact
BrainBuzz never contacts children directly
2. How BrainBuzz is Designed to be Safe
No Pupil Accounts
Pupils do not need to create accounts or profiles to use BrainBuzz. The free activities are accessible without any registration or login whatsoever. Children are never asked for their name, age, email address, school, or any other personal information.
No Pupil Data on Our Servers
Free activity progress and scores are saved locally on the device using browser storage. This data never leaves the device and is never transmitted to BrainBuzz servers. It can be deleted at any time by clearing browser data.
No Social or Communication Features
BrainBuzz has no chat, messaging, commenting, forums, or any form of communication between users. Children cannot contact each other or be contacted by strangers through our platform.
No Advertising
BrainBuzz contains no advertising of any kind — no banner ads, no video ads, no sponsored content, no behavioural targeting, and no third-party advertising networks. Children will never be exposed to commercial content through BrainBuzz.
Age-Appropriate Content
All BrainBuzz activities are designed specifically for primary-age pupils aged 5–13. Content is reviewed to ensure it is educationally appropriate, accurate, and suitable for the intended age group. There is no user-generated content visible to pupils other than teacher-created spelling word lists, which teachers are responsible for ensuring are appropriate.
Secure Access Controls
School subscription access is controlled through individual teacher accounts, managed by a school administrator. Pupils do not have logins. Teachers are responsible for their own credentials and for supervising pupil use of the platform.
3. What We Do With School Data
When schools subscribe to BrainBuzz, we collect limited personal data about school administrators and teachers (names and email addresses) for the purpose of managing the subscription. We do not collect any personal data about pupils.
We act as a data processor on behalf of subscribing schools for teacher data. Schools remain the data controller for any personal data they provide to us. Full details are set out in our Privacy Policy, including the Data Processing Agreement in Section 2.5.
4. Third-Party Services
BrainBuzz uses a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the platform. None of these services receive personal data about pupils:
- Google Analytics — anonymised website usage data only. IP addresses are anonymised. No personally identifiable information is shared
- Cloudflare — CDN and security infrastructure. Processes network traffic but not personal data about users
- ElevenLabs — text-to-speech audio generation for School Spelling word lists. Receives word and sentence content submitted by teachers, not pupil data
- Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions. Only processes payment and billing data from adult subscribers
- Brevo — transactional email delivery to adult subscribers only
All third-party providers are bound by data processing agreements and operate in compliance with UK GDPR.
5. Responsibilities of Schools
While BrainBuzz is designed to be safe by default, schools also have a responsibility when using any digital platform with pupils:
- Schools should ensure BrainBuzz has been reviewed and approved through their own edtech assessment and GDPR process before use with pupils
- Teachers should supervise pupil use of BrainBuzz appropriately, particularly with younger children
- Schools should ensure their own Acceptable Use Policy covers the use of BrainBuzz
- Teachers using the Spelling subscription should review word list content before using it with pupils
- Schools should promptly remove or reassign teacher seats when staff leave
6. Responsibilities of Parents
Parents and guardians whose children use BrainBuzz at home should:
- Supervise younger children's internet use, including use of BrainBuzz
- Be aware that free activity progress is stored locally on the device and can be deleted by clearing browser data
- Contact us immediately if they have any concern about content or their child's experience on BrainBuzz
